If you are injured at work, what is the first thing you should do?
The wrong answer to this question could be devastating to your family's financial future. The right answer is to immediately notify your direct supervisor of your injury. Even though the law gives you twenty-one days to notify your employer of your injury without suffering any penalty, the delay of even one day gives your employer the argument that maybe you were not hurt at work but somewhere else. Do not leave your work without giving notice that you have been injured. Most employers also have work rules that require the immediate reporting of work injuries. Failing to comply with this rule will be used against you if your case must go to court. Remember, even if your direct supervisor discourages you from doing it, report your injury and do it in writing if you have that option. If you do not, you could regret it later.
